Joy, even as a small child, loved drawing and painting. She started seriously painting during her college years and in 1986 she received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Nebraska and previously taught drawing and design at that University during graduate school as a teacher assistant. Since then Joy has been teaching art at Inverness Middle School.

She exhibited her art in the Joslyn Biennial, a prestigious competition for artists in the Midwest. She has exhibited her art in various art galleries throughout Florida. Joy focuses on abstract figurative concepts and realistic landscapes. Last year, she self-published a picture book entitled "When Knees Bend". Currently Joy is creating works involving expressionistic abstract figures with some having landscape elements.

Joy states "The Florida Artists Gallery has given me the opportunity to be with other artists, share ideas, and exhibit my art. It is exciting to get to know the many talented artists in our community of Floral City. It has inspired me to grow in my own artistic aspirations".

Joy paints in her spare time during the summer and on weekends. Working primarily with oil paints, she enjoys painting landscapes and nonobjective compositions, however, Joy’s artistic talent also lends her ability to be creative with other mediums such as clay. She has also published a children's book which can be viewed on her website at JoyLivingston.com
