Born in Queens, Barbara lived most of her life in upstate New York’s capital region. Always artistic, Barbara spent many years doing interior decorating work and creating beautiful window treatments. She ran her own fabrication center and was the window design specialist for Ethan Allen in Schenectady, New York, and had several other contracts with area stores. As a diversion, she started Oil painting classes with local artist, Lou Pelkey. She returned to college to become a computer programmer, graduating Summa Cum Laude and at the top of her class. After working for Computer Sciences Corporation and the State of New York for several years as a programmer, systems analyst and data communications specialist, she and her husband retired to citrus County Florida in 2000. She now had more time to devote to artistic endeavors and took classes with Anne Weaver, Suzanne Mahr and Carol Perry. She has taken workshops with such notables as Suzanna Spann, Joe Feddingis, Lynn Ferris and Sue Primeau. In a continuing effort to learn new techniques, she follows instructions in books and dvds from nationally acclaimed artists as Tom Jones, Janet Rogers, Jean Grasdorf, Steve Rogers, Liam Quan Zhen, Karlyn Holman, Anne Abgott and Soon Y Warren. Barbara recently was awarded second and third place ribbons at the Citrus County Fair for her paintings of a friend’s pet Cocker Spaniel, Abby, and for her work titled Dewdrops on Poppies.
